Service Description

This dynamic course uses the sunlight and light sensitive emulsion to create a range of photograms, painterly layering, and contact printing resulting in one-of-a-kind prints. Students will practice and learn traditions of Cyanotype and Lumen Prints, pushing boundaries of the art of a photograph, channeling their inner Man Ray and play with surrealism! Print variations on paper will be workshopped as well as printing on other porous surfaces, like linen napkins. Composition and concepts will be pushed and discovered- some may be literal, or pattern-perfect, or simply fabulous and weird! Let’s use that brilliant sunshine to collaborate on antique & alternative processes from yesteryear, before the dawn of film and digital photography took hold of our attention. Students will need to bring the following materials in order to successfully participate in this course: • several digital photos of interest. Not sure if you have interesting stuff? Send an email to find out! • objects with a variety of densities- ranging from see-through/transparent to completely opaque to reflective and everywhere in between. • any old negatives or slide film you have! All other necessary materials will be provided and are included in the class fee.
